Kimberly Sheffield, MSW

Registered Clinical Social Worker Intern

I work with children, adolescents, adults, and couples who feel overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected from themselves or their relationships. My approach is grounded, relational, and body-aware. I often use art-based and parts-oriented work to help clients explore experiences that are hard to put into words, with somatic techniques and EFT (tapping) to support nervous system regulation and emotional safety. For couples, I use Gottman Method Couples Therapy to help partners improve communication, rebuild trust, and strengthen connection.

I believe therapy works best when it feels collaborative, paced, and safe. I tailor sessions to each client’s needs and move at a speed that supports real, sustainable change.

I am a Registered Clinical Social Work Intern (RCSWI) working towards licensure in Florida.

Art-Based Interventions

Art-based work offers a gentle way to explore emotions and experiences that can be hard to put into words. For both children and adults, creating something can feel safer than talking directly, especially when working through stress, trauma, or big feelings. Art helps slow the nervous system, build awareness, and create space for insight and healing to emerge naturally. No artistic experience needed! There’s no right or wrong way to do this. The focus isn’t on making art, but on what shows up along the way.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) / Parts Work

IFS is based on the idea that we all have different “parts” of ourselves, each with its own role, feelings, and needs. Rather than trying to get rid of difficult parts, we learn to approach them with curiosity and compassion. This work can reduce inner conflict and support greater self-understanding and balance.

Body-Based Approaches (Somatic Techniques, EFT & Tapping)

Body-based approaches focus on how stress and trauma are held in the nervous system, not just in thoughts. Techniques like somatic awareness and EFT (tapping) help calm the body, release stored tension, and create a sense of safety. This can make emotions feel more manageable and support lasting change.

Couples Therapy Using Gottman Method Couples Therapy

Gottman Method Couples Therapy is a research-based approach that helps couples improve communication, manage conflict more effectively, and strengthen emotional connection. The focus is on building emotional safety, understanding patterns, and developing practical tools that support trust long-term relationship health.
